WE VISITED DURING: September
WE STAYED IN: The Hide (Air B&B)
KIDS AGES: 6-8
PROS: Walk to the estuary, friendly hosts
CONS: Dense mosquitos area, poor sound insulation
WILL VISIT AGAIN: No
The Hide is an Air B&B listing situation in Bouvard which is 1 hour south of Perth, Western Australia. It's situated just a 5 minute walk to the estuary, and a 15 minute drive into Mandurah. It's 3 bedrooms are cozy, and being far enough from the hustle of bustle though close enough to shops makes it an ideal getaway for a small family....except for the mosquitos.
Unfortunately, the generous outdoor undercover veranda could not be enjoyed for fear of being eaten alive by mosquitos which were around day and night. Though plenty of repellent, sprays, and candles were provided by the wonderful hosts, the presence of mosquitos all day long meant that when we were at The Hide, we were mostly inside.
The accommodation itself is well appointed, clean and well stocked with everything you could think of, however the sound insulation throughout is poor and if one person wakes up, it's likely that everyone else will wake too.
The outdoor area is rustic and fenced off. Kids will enjoy climbing on the tractor, trying their dart board skills and hiding in the tee pee. An outdoor BBQ sits right next to a fire pit area, with covered bench seats.
Water bowls are left out for furry friends, and an electric vehicle charging station set up in the front driveway.
Kayaks are offered during the warmer months to use in the estuary, which are all on wheeled trolleys for ease of bringing to the beach path via the road.
